Bay Head is situated in Ocean County, New Jersey, on the Barnegat Peninsula, also known as Barnegat Bay Island, a long, narrow barrier island that separates Barnegat Bay from the Atlantic Ocean. Together with Mantoloking, Bay Head is considered part of the Jersey Shore's "Gold Coast".
Bay Head's beach, owned by the local homeowners and maintained by the Bay Head Improvement Association (B.H.I.A.), is pristine, well guarded and groomed. There are designated areas for surfing, but most all the beach is there for swimming and bodysurfing with lifeguards looking out for your safety.
